Sweet Tea Tuesday – Our Entire Life is Still Ahead of Us

In NaNo smallness, I’m keeping my blogs short in November while participating in National Novel Writing Month.  This is short, but I hope it will make you think, I know it did for me.

A few weeks back, I was riding with one of our salespeople in Grand Rapids, MI, and he stopped off at Calvin College to see his son.  He showed me around campus, as he is an alumni from there as well.  I noticed how happy and upbeat all the young people were as we walked around.  I thought, “Man, it must be nice to have your entire life ahead of you.”  As we were driving later that day, I was thinking about this, and I realized that I STILL have my entire life ahead of me.  You see, the only life we have is the one that is still in front of us.  So from that perspective, we have it all available to us to do as we please.  So the question is, “How am I going to live the rest of my life?  Will I look backward, or forward?”

What do you think?  Do I have it right, or is this just the “wishful thinking” of someone in their 50s?  Let us know what you think, and thanks for stopping by. ~clink~

ROW80 Sunday Check-In

Hey guys,

Very quick update since I’m out of town with limited Internet access

  1. NaNo – 43,003 words.
  2. WWBC – No exercises this week due to Thanksgiving
  3. ROW80 Sponsorship – I wasn’t able to get Internet access Wednesday, and I’ll be on the road most of today, so no, I didn’t do well with my sponsorship this week.
  4. Blog – I had my blogs queued up for this week, so I am good there.
  5. Exercise – I went to exercise twice this week before leaving for Thanksgiving.  Not perfect, but pretty darn good.

So how was your week?

Fried Green Tomato Friday – Thanksgiving

Hello all,

I’m writing this several days before Thanksgiving, because I know I won’t have the time to write it during the holiday.  I just want to tell you what I’m thankful for.

  • My family – I have a wonderful wife, daughter, parents, and in-laws.  I’m truly blessed.
  • My work – I’m referring to my day job here.  The company I work for is solid and has great people.  I rarely have major issues with those I manage, and it makes the rest of my life much easier.
  • My writing – This includes not just what I write, and how I write, but those around me that encourage my growth as I write.  This means you guys.  It is amazing how many of you take the time to read my blog and then give advice, or comments, or encouragement.  It means a lot to me.
  • My country – I am blessed to live in a country that allows me the freedoms I enjoy.  I am also thankful for those men and women that have served this country, or continue to do so, and especially those that gave the ultimate sacrifice with their lives.
  • My God – Who has blessed me with the things above, and so much more.

I won’t go any longer than that.  I know there are numerous other things I could list, but those are the ones that come to mind first.  I hope each and every one of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I’ll see you on Sunday for tne ROW80 check-in.

Sweet Tea Tuesday – How Did Your Grandmothers Impact You?

In NaNo smallness, I’m keeping my blogs short in November while participating in National Novel Writing Month.  This post is a precursor to a four-part story I’m going to write about my grandparents.

Below are pictures of my two sets of grandparents.  Last week I asked you about your grandfathers, so my question this week is, “How did your grandmothers impact you?”  My two grandmothers gave me:

  1. Hard work won’t kill you.
  2. Laughter is the best medicine.

I’ll be expanding this in my story obviously, but I want to know how your grandmothers impacted your lives.  Let us know, and thanks for stopping by. ~clink~

ROW80 Sunday Check-In (11-20-11)

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re all enjoying your pre-Thankgiving weekend.  We went to see MONEYBALL last night.  I’m not a big Brad Pitt fan, but he did a really nice job with his role in this movie.  My wife’s not a huge baseball or Pitt fan, but she really enjoyed it too.  If you want a feel good movie, give it a go.

We’re looking forward to Thanksgiving, and I’m especially looking forward to some of my favorite foods.  Our menu will be – Deep-fried Cajun Turkey (from Bros in Nashville), Honey-Baked Ham, turnip greens, cornbread, cranberry sauce, deviled eggs, sweet potato casserole, cream corn, twice baked potatoes, dressing, green beans, and white beans.  For dessert we’ll have fudge pie, pecan pie, coconut cake, chocolate oatmeal cookies, ambrosia, and peanut brittle.  Hummm.  Yep, going to the gym today to get a head start on caloric burn requirements.  I know I’m going to eat everything, I just need to control the portion sizes.  Still….. 😉

So how did my goals go this week?

1) NaNo – 35,008 words

2) WWBC – Resubmitted BBT Wednesday and did Team Kilo crits yesterday and this morning.  Therefore, I’m pretty much done until the Wednesday after Thanksgiving.

3) Blogs – Back on track with blogs, but depending on today, I may not have a FGT Friday this week.  We’ll see.

4) ROW80 sponsorship – Still commenting on the “#5s”

5) Exercise – I did BodyPump Tuesday and Friday, and I have a 10 a.m. class today.  I think I will really enjoy this once the initial first week superpains go away.  I know to expect some soreness, but after the first class it was pretty bad for a couple of days.  Oh well, it is what it is.

So how did the latter part of your week go?  Let us know.  Have a great  Thanksgiving week. ~clink~

Fried Green Tomato Friday – Scary Snowman

Why do we love to be scared?  Is it the adrenaline rush, or the fact that after we realize we aren’t going to die or be hurt that there’s a moment of intense relief?  Enjoy this clip of some innocent scaring of people on the beach.  There are a couple of moments with wording some people may find offensive, so….

What’s situations have you been in that scared you, but then almost instantly you realized you weren’t in trouble?  Do you like scary rides or movies?  Let us know. ~clink~

Row80 Wednesday Check-In (11-16-11)

Man, this week is flying by.  I did quite a bit of writing Sunday afternoon, but not much since then.  I’m glad I was ahead on NaNoWriMo, because I would be behind now if I hadn’t been.  Anyway, here’s the scoop.

1) NaNo – 29,374 words

2) WWBC – Revised BBT due today.  I’m having a major issue with the premise, but I’ll work through it

3) Blogs – Going well

4) ROW80 sponsorship – Still on top of this

5) Exercise – I went to a BodyPump class yesterday, on my daughter’s recommendation.  Let’s just say I’m a little sore this morning and leave it at that.  I liked the class and will definitely go back again.

So how are you guys doing so far this week? ~clink~

Sweet Tea Tuesday – How Did Your Grandfathers Impact You?

In NaNo smallness, I’m keeping my blogs short in November while participating in National Novel Writing Month.  This post is a precursor to a four-part story I’m going to write about my grandparents.

Below are pictures of my two sets of grandparents.  My question today is, “How did your grandfathers impact you?”  My two grandfathers gave me:

  1. How to use what you have to get what you need.
  2. Lead other by example, and they will follow you.

I’ll be expanding this in my story obviously, but I want to know how your grandfathers impacted your lives.  Let us know, and thanks for stopping by. ~clink~

ROW80 Sunday Check-In 11/13/11

Hey guys,

I hope everyone had a great week, and is looking forward to the coming one.  My daughter came to visit from Wednesday through yesterday, so I honestly haven’t gotten much done during that time.  That’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it. 😉

1) NaNo – 24,028 words

2) WWBC – Revising BBT for submission Wednesday

3) Blogs – I did not do a FGTF this week.  No excuses, just forgot.  Won’t happen again.

4) ROW80 sponsorship – Still on top of this

5) Exercise – So far, so good

So how did your week go?  Let us know.  Have a great week. ~clink~

ROW80 Check-In (11/9/11)

Another short and sweet one, as my computer has tanked a couple of times on me this morning already, and I’m having to do this from a less than easy to type on device.

1) NaNo – 22,459 words
2) WWBC – Revising BBT this weekend
3) Blogs – Rolling right along
4) ROW80 sponsorship – Still on top of this
5) Exercise – I’ve had two sessions this week, so I’m on track.*

* I made a reverse New Year’s resolution a few weeks back regarding weight loss. I neglected to take the holidays into account, and I see that my goal of over 20 pounds just isn’t going to be possible now. I’m revising my goal to just hit my exercise goal of three stationary bike sessions per week, while doing my best to eat well the remainder of the year. I’ll get into my reasoning a little more on my Sunday post when I have an actual keyboard to type on. Thanks for stopping by.
